Origin: United States and Canada. Bloodroot is known for its antimicrobial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties. Its medicinal properties include its expectorant, laxative, emmenagogue, narcotic, aphrodisiac, tonic, stimulant, sedative, sneezing and vermifuge effect. Additionally, it has been used as a natural dye and in dyeing fabrics by Native American artists.
You can make infusions or decoctions with the dried roots. It is also used in mouthwashes and toothpastes to inhibit bacterial growth in dental plaque.
