Origin: Mexico and Central America. The jalapa leaf is used mainly for its purgative and laxative properties. It has been traditionally used as a natural remedy to relieve constipation and promote bowel movement. It can be prepared as an infusion by placing a teaspoon of dried leaves in a cup of hot water and letting it sit for a few minutes. It is then filtered and can be drunk warm.
